The Deepest Question… About Social Media
Whenever I talk with other business owners about social media, I listen carefully to the questions they ask. Social media is confusing for many people, so there are a lot of questions. Yet there is one foundation question behind all the rest. Business people want to know if social media is going to allow them to build stronger

relationships with their client community so that their network expands and brings in more business. It’s a little like eating sushi for the fist time. You wonder if raw fish is going to be worthwhile.
That’s pretty much how business people evaluate most everything they come across. The answer is yes, social media, when it’s used correctly, provides lots of valuable communications that deepen relationships with any client community.
Businesses find Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and blogs
…particularly useful for promoting events, contacting prospects, screening job candidates and extending business communications about various parts of their business. Previously they had no channels to work with many of these communications – things like customer service, supply chain and transportation all get to broadcast details which are usually not known by customers. The community gets to see the company’s positive inner workings, and that goes a long way towards attracting more new prospects.
The problem for so many busies people is really how to find the time to work with all these new channels of communication. When they look into social media they don’t reject it because it can’t help grow their business, it’s because they become overwhelmed with how to go about using it. In fact, many business people are both overwhelmed about how to proceed successfully and at the same time fearful they will be left behind in their market space if they don’t figure out how to leverage social media.
How to proceed economically, efficiently and rapidly
That’s where social media management comes in. Everyone wants a social media manager that can grow their business successfully and fast enough that he pays for himself. When social media questions get more detailed that’s the one that is really on business people’s minds. Can they get a social media campaign up and running with out spending an arm and a leg before they see returns? The answer is yes, it is doable, but it requires a commitment and some start up money. But the real point is, get started, because social media is here to stay.
